PCN Asks Matty: Answers for 6/15/2010

Toy News

Once again our friends at Mattel have taken the time to answer our questions! Click on through to check out the answers for 6/15/2010!

1) Does Mattel have any plans for the Movie Masters line beyond The Dark Knight, Ghostbusters, and Avatar?

Sure, but we are not ready to announce anything yet! Stay tuned.

2) Will we be able to get a Queen Marlena in MOTUC, or does the inability to use Filmation cause problesm for her release?

We can absolutely do Queen Marlena. She appeared in both the original mini-comics and the 2002 series, which are both available for the current line. She was a Mattel-created character and we can put her in any colored dress we would like (including Green).

3) In regards to characters who've got staction figures but weren't in the 200x line, will those figures be more based of their vintage figures which we haven't seen since the mid 80s or will they have a similar appearance to the stactions? How do you decide this for the "Classics" style?

The Horsemen make most design choices for the line, but the creative direction we have provided is that all figures in the MOTUC line be modern updates to the vintage figures with current articulation and detail. You may see some “200X” elements such as Webstor’s extra arms, but for the most part all MOTUC figures will be modern updates of the vintage figures. If a figure was not in the vintage line (like Marzo) the MOTUC figure will be a modern update to a hypothetical vintage figure, as if one did exist and how it might have used shared parts.

4) Since we have now received Tytus, and know that other large scale figures may be coming, does this completely rule out the possibility of seeing "Collect and Connect" utilized in MOTUC?

Collect and Connect is a tool we use for retail lines to encourage and reward fans who buy a full wave. MOTU is only available online and we have always stated from day one that this feature would not be part of the MOTUC line.

5) We understand the reasoning given for why Keldor has classic-styled Power Swords, but it's safe to say there are many fans of the 200x design. Since we got the 200x Power Sword (both with MAA and the Weapons Pack), is there any chance at all, even a tiny chance, that we might get the 200x dual swords at some point? We don't even need them worked into the canon, we just want them to display with our Keldor!

The 200X Keldor swords WERE the vintage swords (look at the hilt and the blade shape). They were the vintage swords with added 200X details and style. The Electronic Power Sword was a completely different sword. So, the swords that MOTUC Keldor comes with are his 200X swords done in the vintage style (i.e. 200X style elements scaled back). If you took the 200X Keldor swords and "Classic-ized" them removing the 200X anime hyper detail elements you would be left with the two Classic purple half swords. We try to address the Classic line as "how would the vintage line do it". And in the vintage line, if they wanted to give Keldor two swords they would have given him both halves of the Power Sword in Purple. So that is what we did!
