The Comics Corner - Week of 09/21/2011

The Comics Corner

Editor's note: Due to technical difficulties, The Comics Corner hasn't been posted for a couple of weeks. Today we are posting the missing columns in their entirety.

Welcome to the Comics Corner! We’re one big happy family again as the DC dominance was rather subdued this week. Cloak & Dagger are back thanks to Spider Island but there is a real lack of spiders or islands in the issue, but is that a bad thing? Star Trek and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles crash DC’s reboot party with a pair of issues that explore not only strange new worlds but also the depths of Manhattan’s sewers. And of course there are some DC comics! It’s a light week of DC for me but this week it’s all about quality, not quantity. The new Batman series blends Christopher Nolan with Batman: the Animated Series and Wonder Woman shows us what it means to ‘fight like a girl’! So come inside and stare in wonder at the Top of the Stack!

The Comics Corner - Week of 09/14/2011 Part 2

The Comics Corner
Welcome back to the Comics Corner! It’s not all about DC this week; in fact it’s a shame that some of these comics will go unnoticed because of the buzz DC is creating. But in an effort to shine a light on the rest we have some Fear Itself and Spider-Island event madness and the second issue of Severed is even creepier than the first. Plus we’ve got that other big re-launch, Ultimate Comics Spider-Man! So come inside once again, leave your DC at the door, and see what’s new at the Top of the Stack!

The Comics Corner - Week of 09/14/2011 Part 1

The Comics Corner
Welcome to the Comics Corner! The DC domination continues for the third week in a row so we’re back to splitting the Corner in half. What’s new in the DC 52 this week? Not much, I’m afraid. It’s a heavy week for Batman and Green Lantern related titles and someone forgot to tell them that this is a new universe! But there are some new concepts to be had by way of Frankenstein: Agent of S.H.A.D.E. and DC gets medieval with Demon Knights. Let’s get part one of the Comics Corner under way and discover what caught my attention, what title gave me buyer’s remorse and what comic was the Best of the Bunch!

The Comics Corner - Week of 09/7/2011

The Comics Corner
Welcome to the Comics Corner! It’s going to be a month dominated by DC’s new 52 and the first full week starts with a bang. We’ve got Action Comics, Batgirl, Detective Comics and Justice League International. But it’s not all DC so stick around for the best issue of Morning Glories in far too long and Sweet Tooth continues its impressive run. And wrapping up the Comics Corner this week, by way of a forum suggestion, is X-Factor! Find out how that experiment went, and if the new DC comics are off to a good start. Come inside and find out who made the Top of the Stack!

The Comics Corner - Week of 08/10/2011

The Comics Corner
Welcome to the Comics Corner! This week we visit Spider Island and return to face Fear Itself yet again. The Punisher breaks out of prison and finds his way back into the Comics Corner and speaking of returns, Morning Glories is finally back! And this week it occurred to me that Cloak and Dagger should be the Marvel characters starring in their own anime series, helping to finally give them the attention and audience they deserve. So come inside for events big and small and plenty of Nick Spencer as we shine a light into the dark at the Top of the Stack

The Comics Corner - Week of 08/03/2011

The Comics Corner
Welcome to Flashpoint…uh, I mean the Comics Corner! This week we spend some quality time in the world of Flashpoint. You’ll find no fanboy belly-aching here, just pure comic-loving optimism. Hold on to that optimism though because once we return from Flashpoint we head back in time to the life of Johann Schmidt, before he became the villainous Red Skull and then it’s back state-side for Scott Snyder’s new horror tale featuring hobos, railroads and plenty of creeps and chills. So come inside the Comics Corner and bare witness to the Top of the Stack!
