|Blacksparrow Auctions is pleased to announce the Vintage Toys & Pop Culture Auction, to be held at the Chicago Comic & Entertainment Expo (C2E2) on April 28, 2013 11am CT. The live auction features over 250 artifacts from popular culture as depicted in television, film, comics and children’s literature. A select variety of toys, comics and artwork from the auction catalog will be on display at C2E2.
The featured items in the sale include the original 1978 Carbalon hand-painted hardcopy 15” Darth Vader figure with Lightsaber, given by Kenner to Sears to photograph for the 1978 Christmas catalog and the extremely rare Kenner Stretch Serpent, boxed and in mint condition.
Other offerings include original design artwork for children’s book covers and game pieces, such as the Brady Bunch paper doll book design prototype, Pink Panther jigsaw puzzles, Bugs Bunny sticker books, and many other one-of-a-kind items. In addition, there will be a selection of CGC-graded Silver Age comics, including Fantastic Four #1 and Amazing Spider-Man #1. This collection represents a span of 45 years of this genre. With its variety of value offerings, it affords an excellent opportunity for the beginning collector as well as the seasoned connoisseur.

*sigh*…….as each issue of Age of Ultron comes out, more and more faults are found in it. My main dislike with this “event” is that it was originally supposed to have happened years ago and was delayed. Now that it is happening, it does not match up with the current Marvel NOW! landscape.
I read interview after interview from the powers-that-be at Marvel that this event currently takes place “now” in the present-day Marvel universe. Examples given are the tie-in issues like Superior Spider-Man #6AU and Fantastic Four #5AU. Sure, these out-of-continuity issues show another side of the Age of Ultron, but the follow-up books from these two series go right back to their regular stories.

Aspen Comics has announced their sixth title in their successful “10 for 10” initiative is the Aspen flagship title, Michael Turner’s Fathom. In accordance with the 15-year anniversary of the title, and a planned summer crossover leading into the new series, the All New Fathom #1 will feature a new direction for the series and an excellent jumping-on point for new readers. From writer David Wohl (Legend of the Shadow Clan, Executive Assistant: Iris) and Alex Konat (Fathom, Mindfield) and Beth Sotelo (Fathom, Shrugged), the All New Fathom #1 will debut in stores on July 24th.
