LOS ANGELES, CA (March 20, 2019)\u00a0<\/strong>\u2013 BOOM! Studios today announced a new creative team for the brand new story arc starting in\u00a0BUFFY THE VAMPIRE SLAYER #5<\/strong>. The explosive first chapter of the new story arc for the highly acclaimed comic book series will debut in-stores June 5, 2019, in partnership with 20th Century Fox Consumer Products.<\/p>\n

Artist David L\u00f3pez joins writer Jordie Bellaire at the start of a brand new story arc after the shocking conclusion of the last issue. The reimagining of Joss Whedon’s groundbreaking series jumps straight into the first chapter of the new story as Buffy and her friends deal with recent shocking events, friends turned foe, and enemies who might be allies, along with all the usual high school drama. Buffy\u2019s world has turned upside down, and it\u2019s only a matter of time before something comes along to tip her straight over into the darkness, but will she recognize the danger when it arrives or will it sneak into her life and sow the seeds of chaos from within?<\/p>\n

Welcome back to the Hellmouth, as Eisner Award-nominated writer Jordie Bellaire (Redlands<\/em>) and acclaimed artist David L\u00f3pez (Captain Marvel, X-Men, All-New Wolverine<\/em>), along with series creator and story consultant Joss Whedon (the visionary writer\/director behind\u00a0Firefly<\/em>,\u00a0Marvel\u2019s The Avengers<\/em>, and more), reimagine the groundbreaking pop culture phenomenon from the very beginning.<\/p>\n

BUFFY THE VAMPIRE SLAYER #5<\/strong>\u00a0features main covers by Mondo illustrator Marc Aspinall, along with covers by artists Kevin Wada (She-Hulk<\/em>), Yasmine Putri (Nightwing<\/em>), Morgan Beem (The Family Trade<\/em>), Becca Carey (Bitch Planet<\/em>), and Kaiti Infante (Buffy the Vampire Slayer<\/em>).<\/p>\n

Jordie Bellaire is an Eisner Award-winning colorist best known for her work on\u00a0Batman<\/em>and\u00a0Hawkeye<\/em>, as well as for her Eisner-nominated writing debut,\u00a0Redlands<\/em>. She has worked as a colorist on countless critically-acclaimed series for publishers Dark Horse, DC Comics, IDW, Image Comics, Marvel Entertainment, and Valiant.<\/p>\n

\u201cI am overwhelmed with delight that David L\u00f3pez is joining the team. I’m a big fan of David’s work,\u201d said writer, Jordie Bellaire. \u201cHe’s an incredibly unique, beautifully cartooned and grounded artist. He’ll be a great fit for Buffy in high school and Buffy in hell – I can’t wait to show readers what we do together!\u201d<\/p>\n

David L\u00f3pez is a comics artist who lives in Spain. He began his career with\u00a0Espiral<\/em>, a slice-of-life comic book with remarkable success in Spain. Soon after he began working for DC Comics where he co-created\u00a0Fallen Angel<\/em>\u00a0with Peter David. L\u00f3pez then became the artist for a 30-issue run of\u00a0Catwoman<\/em>. In 2008, he became an artist for Marvel Entertainment\u2019s\u00a0Captain Marvel<\/em>,\u00a0Spider-Man<\/em>,\u00a0All New Wolverine<\/em>, and\u00a0X-Men<\/em>\u00a0among many other series. His work on\u00a0Mystic\u00a0<\/em>with G. Willow Wilson, in 2011, received both Harvey Award and Eisner Award nominations. In 2018, L\u00f3pez finished work on his creator-owned series\u00a0BlackHand IronHead\u00a0<\/em>for Panel Syndicate.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019ve always felt very attached to\u00a0Buffy the Vampire Slayer<\/em>. I remember watching the show while working on my art and comics for years. Now I\u2019m going to be a part of that universe, and that\u2019s magic,\u201d said artist David L\u00f3pez.<\/p>\n

Buffy The Vampire Slayer<\/em>\u00a0premiered on the WB Network on March 10th, 1997. The Emmy and Golden Globe-nominated series, which ran for seven seasons from 1997-2003, stars Sarah Michelle Gellar as \u201cBuffy Summers.\u201d Chosen to battle vampires, demons and other forces of darkness, Buffy is aided by a Watcher who guides and teaches her as she surrounds herself with a circle of friends called the \u201cScooby Gang.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cDavid and I go way back, from\u00a0Batman\u00a0<\/em>to\u00a0X-Men<\/em>\u00a0and a bunch in-between, so I\u2019m incredibly excited to have him join the\u00a0BUFFY THE VAMPIRE SLAYER\u00a0<\/strong>team. His dynamism and detail bring something really special to every panel, whether it\u2019s an everyday high school scene or an over-the-top action sequence,\u201d said Jeanine Schaefer, Executive Editor, BOOM!
