\u00a0In a future world of robots,\u00a0extinct\u00a0humans have been brought back to life\u2014but will they earn their place in\u00a0society, or will have to fight for it?\u00a0The forthcoming Image\/Top Cow sci-fi mini series\u2014Metal Society<\/em>\u00a0<\/em><\/strong>by Zack Kaplan (Port of Earth, Eclipse<\/em>), Guilherme Balbi, Marco Lesko, and Troy Peteri\u2014explores just that with a side of MMA-Style sport fights.<\/p>\n

In\u00a0<\/em><\/strong>Metal Society<\/em>, the creators take readers on an inverted future, where evolved robots resurrect humans for manual labor. But, a\u00a0tribalistic cultural clash breaks\u00a0out, causing\u00a0a fearless human fighter and a\u00a0frustrated, displaced\u00a0robot\u00a0to square off\u00a0in a public fight of epic stakes.<\/p>\n

\u201cWhile our own technology, our politics, and our world are changing faster than ever, sadly our\u00a0society\u00a0seems to be responding with aggression and hostility. We\u2019re resorting to tribalism and we\u2019re allowing our differences to be aired out publicly for entertainment value,” said Kaplan.\u00a0“I\u2019ve always been inspired by great robot stories that remind us of our own experience, and I thought that by exploring this\u00a0Rocky-<\/em>style fight drama in a futuristic robot-ruled world\u2014this charged robot vs human culture clash, and the ‘human’ fighters that get pulled into these public battles\u2014we might just learn something about our own humanity and our social conflicts today.\u201d<\/p>\n

Paired with newcomer artist\u00a0Guilherme Balbi, they created a rich world in which readers can suspend disbelief and put themselves into the story. Balbi commented, “Creating a new world is always a big challenge, and even getting bigger because everything with ‘robots’\u00a0is even more difficult, but that’s exactly what makes this world so special. There are many details, wires, and many, many gears. I try to get a lot of inspiration from movies and references, and mix with the things I like. Understanding Zack’s vision for this project was very important to take another step in my growth as an artist, but in this work I took flight.”<\/p>\n
