BOOM! Studios announced today\u00a0BRIAR<\/strong>, a brand new four-issue limited comic book series from Eisner Award-nominated writer, producer, and director Christopher Cantwell (Regarding the Matter of Oswald\u2019s Body, Iron Man, Halt\u00a0<\/em>and\u00a0Catch Fire<\/em>), rising artist Germ\u00e1n Garc\u00eda (Ka-Zar: Lord of the Savage Land<\/em>), and colorist Matheus Lopes (Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow<\/em>) that reimagines the classic fairy tale as an epic dark fantasy adventure.<\/p>\n

What if Sleeping Beauty never got her happily ever after\u2026 and instead had to save herself? Set in a brutal fantasy world that time forgot, this isn\u2019t the fairy tale you know!<\/p>\n

Christopher Cantwell is the current writer of the ongoing\u00a0Iron Man\u00a0<\/em>series for Marvel Entertainment. His other comic book credits include\u00a0The United States of Captain America<\/em>\u00a0and\u00a0Doctor Doom<\/em>\u00a0for Marvel Entertainment,\u00a0Regarding the Matter of Oswald\u2019s Body<\/em>\u00a0and\u00a0Angel\u00a0<\/em>for BOOM! Studios,\u00a0The Blue Flame<\/em>\u00a0for Vault Comics, and\u00a0She Could Fly<\/em>\u00a0and\u00a0Everything\u00a0<\/em>from Dark Horse\u2019s Berger Books.<\/p>\n

Chris is also a co-creator, executive producer, and showrunner of AMC\u2019s\u00a0Halt and Catch Fire\u00a0<\/em>and additionally served as an executive producer on the first season of the upcoming TV adaptation of Brian K. Vaughan and Cliff Chiang\u2019s\u00a0Paper Girls<\/em>, coming soon to Amazon Prime.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019ve never gotten a chance to tell a high fantasy story of any kind, but I\u2019ve always wanted to, ever since I discovered old Robert E. Howard stories. One thing that kept me hesitant was finding a proper way in\u2014something new and different that also celebrates all the sword & sorcery fun seen in the best of the genre,\u201d said Cantwell. \u201cIn tandem, as I grow older, the world around us seems less and less stable with so many things falling into crisis. These two things came together in my head in the form of\u00a0BRIAR<\/strong>\u2026 here\u2019s someone that remembers the world one way, during a time of sheltered innocence, but has now overslept\u2026 and found herself in a place of complete entropic disarray. The question is, how will she even survive? And what happens when the plans for the entire rest of your life turn out to be completely meaningless and absurd? Where do you turn to in order to conjure up your own new meaning and purpose?\u201d<\/p>\n

Germ\u00e1n Garc\u00eda is a comic book author and illustrator from Asturias, Spain. After creating his comic book series, Tess Tinieblas, he broke into the U.S. market as an artist for comic book series such as\u00a0X-Men, Immortal Hulk<\/em>, and\u00a0Ka-zar: Lord Of The Savage Land<\/em>\u00a0for Marvel Entertainment,\u00a0Action Comics<\/em>\u00a0for DC Comics, and most recently\u00a0Barbarella\/Dejah Thoris\u00a0<\/em>for Dynamite Entertainment.<\/p>\n
