\u00a0Following the monumental box office success of Paramount Pictures\u2019\u00a0Sonic The Hedgehog 2<\/em>\u00a0and leading up to SEGA\u2019s highly anticipated action-adventure Sonic game,\u00a0Sonic Frontiers\u2122<\/em>,\u00a0IDW<\/strong><\/a>\u00a0is thrilled to reveal two upcoming\u00a0Sonic The Hedgehog<\/em><\/strong>\u00a0comic book projects for 2022 featuring the Blue Blur and his band of buds!<\/p>\n

Just in time for Halloween, the spooky four-issue miniseries Scrapnik Island,<\/em><\/strong>\u00a0written by\u00a0Daniel Barnes<\/strong>\u00a0and illustrated by\u00a0Jack Lawrence<\/strong>\u00a0with colors by\u00a0Nathalie Fourdraine<\/strong>, will release in October 2022. Alongside formidable new foes, Sonic and Tails run afoul of old adversaries\u2014including long-lost fan favorites like Mecha Knuckles\u2014as they battle to survive isolation on an island of robots programmed to destroy them.<\/p>\n

\u201cWhen coming up with\u00a0Scrapnik Island<\/em>, I took a lot of influence from horror movies and comics,\u201d says Barnes. \u201cMy goal was to tell a really creepy and atmospheric story with a vibe that Sonic fans aren\u2019t normally used to. There are some surprises in this one that I don\u2019t think readers are going to see coming!\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cI jumped at the chance to work on\u00a0Sonic<\/em>\u00a0again, but I didn\u2019t expect to be having this much fun!\u201d Lawrence says. \u201cI have a deep love of creepy stories, of dark corners and creaky floorboards, and\u00a0Scrapnik Island<\/em>\u00a0has really given me the opportunity to scratch that itch. It\u2019s fun, fresh, exciting\u2014basically everything I really enjoy in a\u00a0Sonic<\/em>\u00a0story (and I think everyone else will, too!) I\u2019m back with my blue buddy; I couldn\u2019t be happier!\u201d<\/p>\n

As a follow-up to IDW\u2019s popular\u00a0Sonic 30th Anniversary Special<\/em>,\u00a0Sonic The Hedgehog: Tails\u2019 30th Anniversary Special<\/em>\u00a0<\/strong>will release in November 2022, featuring a new 30-page (for 30 years!) story by series regular\u00a0Ian Flynn<\/strong>, with art by\u00a0Aaron Hammerstrom<\/strong>\u00a0and colors by\u00a0Reggie Graham<\/strong>\u00a0inspired by the classic games.<\/p>\n

\u201cI had a blast with last year\u2019s\u00a0Sonic 30th Anniversary<\/em>\u00a0story, which was a celebration of the Classic Sonic cast. This time around I wanted to do something a little more restrained and focused so we could properly celebrate Tails, his courage, and his intellect. That said, you know I couldn\u2019t pass up an opportunity to mine the\u00a0Sonic<\/em>\u00a0series history for the villains!\u201d says Flynn.<\/p>\n

\u201cTails was my favorite character growing up and he\u2019s still incredibly important to me, so I\u2019m glad to be able to help put him back in the spotlight for a bit. It\u2019s so exciting to bring back these weird, obscure characters along with him, too! I think they\u2019re gonna be a lot of fun!\u201d says Hammerstrom.<\/p>\n
