The DTAs have now officially launched the nomination period for the 8th annual awards! Running from now\u00a0until\u00a0March 12th<\/span><\/span>\u00a0(6pm EST<\/span><\/span>), nominations can be submitted through the website\u00a0designertoyawards.com<\/a>.<\/p>\n

This year’s awards will accept nominations for releases, artists, and companies, that were active from\u00a0January to December 2017.<\/p>\n

Head on over to the Designer Toy Awards\u00a0website and answer our “Call For Entries” by adding those worthy from 2017, and don’t forget… only nominated items can be considered for the awards. If you want your work to be considered please nominate it, nominations are confidential and there is no shame\u00a0in nominating yourself or your own product! Introducing Best Production Sculpt!<\/h1>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

This new category will recognize\u00a0a singularly outstanding sculpt for a production\u00a0toy. This award celebrates a sculpt that exemplifies the creative act of transforming an artists\u00a0vision into a 3-dimensional\u00a0object.<\/p>\n

Requirements<\/em>
\n\u2022\u00a0Release must be a brand new Designer Toy, or a significantly modified version of a previous release, that was debuted last year.
\n\u2022\u00a0Release must have been produced in quantities greater than 50\u00a0pieces.
\n\u2022\u00a0Release can be produced in any material<\/p>\n

Adding this award gives the DTAs the opportunity to celebrate\u00a0the craftsmanship behind the scenes, and the magic of collaboration between production house and artist. We are very excited to honor the art of the sculpt with this award.<\/p>\n

How do the awards work?<\/h1>\n

Now in its 8th year, The Designer Toy Awards has honed its process, listening to feedback and adjusting where ever it makes sense. We haven’t made any structural changes to the awards process in the past few years, but just to recap, here is how it works:<\/p>\n

1. Open Nominations<\/strong>\u00a0– \u00a0Call for entries is open for anyone to make a relevant\u00a0nomination. We rely on these nominations for the awards. These are not published on the website.<\/p>\n

2.\u00a0Nomination Committees<\/strong>\u00a0– \u00a0The DTAs host small committees of industry professionals and fans, carefully matched to categories in order to reduce bias, to take the list of nominations and reduce them down to become the Finalists. The committees meet and discuss every entry, using the published list of award criteria\u00a0to make their selects. These are published on the website as the year’s official finalists.<\/p>\n

3.\u00a0Voting<\/strong>\u00a0– We run two voting blocks:<\/p>\n

DTA Panel<\/strong>: Industry professionals make up the DTA panel. They are charged with voting\u00a0ONCE\u00a0<\/strong>per category for the winner in the panel voted awards. Each year new panel members are added to keep our list as diverse as possible.<\/p>\n

Fan Voted:\u00a0<\/strong>The public voters get\u00a0ONE vote per category<\/strong>\u00a0in the open Fan award. We do look at IP addresses, ISPN Hacks, and email address to reduce voter fraud. Each year we tighten up on potential attempts to “rig” the system.<\/p>\n

4.\u00a0Winners<\/strong>\u00a0– Winners of each category are determined by the most votes in each category. \u00a0Clutter, nor The Designer Toy Awards, or Five Points Festival staff, vote in or “choose” the winners.<\/p>\n

5.\u00a0Awards Ceremony<\/strong>\u00a0– The awards are presented at a ceremony on\u00a0June 1st, 2018<\/span><\/span>, during the weekend of\u00a0Five Points Festival<\/a>\u00a0.\u00a0 For the public to attend the ceremony you must purchase a VIP Weekend ticket for Five Points Festival.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n
