Aubameyang arrives at FC Barcelona hoping to provide goals

Describing his arrival at the club as a dream from which he never intends to wake up, the Gabonese international discusses his move to FC Barcelona

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang appeared ambitious at his first press conference as an FC Barcelona player, saying that “I hope to score a lot of goals and help the team.”

“It is a dream to be at one of the best clubs in the world” he continued. “And I never want to wake up from that dream.”

President Joan Laporta added that “this is a way to love the club and show all the effort and help from Aubameyang, who has come here in a difficult time. It is something to be appreciated.” He was referring not just to ‘Auba’ himself but also to Barça’s technical secretary, and the player’s family and agent, who did so much to get the player here just in time before closure of the winter transfer window.

Mentally prepared

Having met his new team-mates and announced that he’ll be wearing the number 25 shirt, the Gabonese international said that “I am happy and ready to do everything possible to put Barça back on top. There is the right atmosphere and quality to do that.”

He hasn’t played competitively for some time, but Aubameyang insists that “I am mentally ready because I have clear ideas in my head. I’ll give it my very best from any position on the field … I have spoken to Xavi and he wants me to be centre forward, but if he ever wants me to play on the wings, I’ll do that no problem at all.”

The now former Arsenal player added that “I am ready to adapt to the incredible Barça style. I am ready to do that in a very good quality team … I can’t wait to start.”

“I don’t want to set any exact goal targets” he concluded. “I just want to score lots.”
