COLISEUM OF COMICS ANNOUNCES DEBUT OF ROY BROWN COLLECTION

Largest Collection Ever Purchased by Coliseum To Be Unveiled June 23rd

More than 150 boxes. Over 40-thousand comic books, some dating back to the 1940s. Valued at well over $300,000.  The Orlando-based Coliseum of Comics chain’s recent purchase of the collection from the estate of former friend and customer Roy Brown, who passed away in 2018, marked the largest single acquisition for the company in its 36 years in business.

Brown’s collection was the result of 50+ years of collecting, with complete runs of many titles going back to their beginnings at issue #1, and some books all the way from the Golden Age of Comics, with titles starring Superman and Batman from the summer of 1947.

“Our back-issue specialists, including myself, have over 100 combined years in this business, and there are many books in the Brown Collection that we’ve never seen before,” said Phil Boyle, owner of the Coliseum chain. “A collection of this magnitude – with so many key issues – making its way to the market is a rare occasion.”

Coliseum has scheduled much of the Roy Brown Collection to debut to the public at a day-long event at the chain’s Kissimmee location on June 23rd.

“Our Kissimmee store is the only one we have that’s really capable of displaying this collection the way it deserves to be seen,” Boyle said. “Roy amassed such an amazing collection that we wanted fans to be able to take it all in at once.”

The collection includes legendary milestones, origins, and famous firsts from comic book history, many of which have been adapted into television and motion pictures: The first appearance of The Avengers, the Justice League of America, Thor, Loki, the Fantastic Four, Daredevil, Doctor Strange, the Punisher, Killgrave, Green Lantern, Doctor Doom, Silver Surfer, Moon Knight, Rocket Raccoon, Guardians of the Galaxy, the Black Widow, Nick Fury, Thanos, Teen Titans, and many more.

According to Jack Copley, Coliseum Back Issue Specialist and advisor to the Overstreet Comic Book Price Guide, the chain has never seen so many major appearances in one place. “It’s a once-in-a-lifetime treat to be able to work with so many rare books in one collection.”
